Who hasn’t been hit by the economic crisis? In rough times like this, we moms should be critical with what we spend our money on. We should be very careful purchasing or else we’ll be short before payday comes.

The greatest way to save money would be making the right decision regarding grocery buys. Food is a big portion of our budget simply because it’s a necessity. Second comes the house utilities such as soap, children needs like diapers, and etc.

Here’s a few tips for you on how to save money and still have the best:

1) Seek for budget wise stores. These are usually your cheap neighborhood markets who sells products at a great deal. There’s no harm in buying at a thrift store. You could even check the quality to reassure safety.

2) No need for branded products. Brand vs. the generic. There are some who think that the label is the basis for an effective product. Actually no. Unless you tried it, you will not know. Be experimental and try on different brands every week.

3) A little research won’t hurt. Surf for forums and other mom sites out there. I’m sure you’re not the only person going through this crisis. See what they’re doing to save money in their homes.

4) Browse for delicious yet inexpensive recipes. There are tons of menus which are created with little ingredients but is bursting with flavors. You could also find tips to substitute those costly ingredients.

Get started with these four cardinal tips and you’ll eventually discover more ways to save.

The Bilingual Site called Bodegamas

As a latina mom and member of various forum/community sites, I always stumble upon this website called Bodegamas and its numerous promotions. At first I thought it was spam or some sort of consistent advertisement or even a virus bringing link. But after a while, seeing and reading good reviews about it, I was driven to actually visit the site.

Bodegamas.com is a bilingual website that at looks site a big grocery catalog but is actually more like an interactive “Amazon” type of site for moms. I guess you’re wondering why I called it bilingual. The site first lands into spanish and be translated to english after one click in the language button.

Unlike other sites, Bodegamas don’t have forums or discussion boards. Instead, the webmasters brought a different approach to this site.

This Spanglish site is a leway to making a wise decision focused on budget and money handling. Once you’ve registered, a list of action buttons are presented to you: My account, My shopping list, My recipes, My coupons and My calculator. These tools help you organize all your financial spending and even share luscious budget-wise recipes to other members. The best recipe will be featured in the landing page of Bodegamas.

The Family button in the tabs also incorporates several news related to family care from health to business to homecare.

As for the prizes and promos, Bodegamas is more of a sponsor site which holds all these gimmicks. The latest I saw was the Huggies Pull Ups Dance contest which by the way was the one that moved me to check out this site. Kids were made to dance the Pull Ups theme song and the cutest ones will win a grocery card from the infamous Food 4 Less supermaket, a surplus grocery store in California. Although the prize is only worth 500$, if you think about it, it saves a big part of the monthly budget.

To win, videos uploaded must be criticized and reviewed by users. Surprisingly voters win a prize as well. Aside from this, regular raffle draws are hosted by Bodegamas just register.

I give this site three stars. Maybe its just a new site, but still it lacks some more functionality. Forums and groups are a hit in community sites. And since they started the video upload function, maybe they can put featured babies.
